Principal Engagement

Increase Student Achievement through Independent Reading!

Kids all over Canada are reading more and having more fun doing it thanks to fun-loving educators willing to do whatever it takes to inspire kids to pick up a book! The Scholastic Principal Engagement page has ideas created by Principals, for Principals to encourage their involvement in the school Book Fair.

To learn more about the importance of reading in a child’s overall education, read the Scholastic Kids & Family Reading ReportTM, Canadian Edition.

Book Fair Preview

Empower teachers and Principals to share their excitement for reading!

A Book Fair Preview is held just before the Book Fair starts as a time for teachers and Principals to discover the new books, series, and authors at the Book Fair before the students, so they can make thoughtful recommendations to children and their parents. This Guide walks you through 4 easy steps to plan a successful Book Fair Preview that no teacher or Principal will want to miss!

Classroom Wish List

Help grant Book Wishes – One Classroom at a Time!

The Classroom Wish List Program helps parents and others donate books to Classroom Libraries. Each teacher completes a Wish List during the Book Fair Preview, which are displayed during the Book Fair so families and community members can easily see and purchase the books needed for each classroom.

Connect kids to books they will want to read!

The more kids hear about books, the more excited they are to choose books that they want to read! Scholastic Book Fairs Planning Kits include Book Blurbs Preview Cards, summaries of some of the hottest titles on the Fair! To complement the Book Blurbs, our Booktalk-in-a-Box Program can be requested and arrives ahead of the Book Fair to jumpstart Booktalking amongst students, librarians, teachers and Principals!

Summer Reading

Stop the Summer Slide!

As with any other activity that requires skill, reading needs to be practiced. Statistics show that reading less, or not at all, during the summer break can result in significant learning setbacks during the next school year – called the Summer Slide. Scholastic Book Fairs can prevent Summer Slide through Summer Reading Book Fairs, a Summer Activity Guide, and a Recommended Summer Reading List.
